Large Animal Rescue Awareness Class 10/27/09
This class is being offered for Emergency Professionals and County Officials. Please encourage emergency responders in your county to attend this class. In the light of the recent floods it would be peace of mind to know that somebody in your county has the specialized training to assist in the rescue of your horse, cow, llama or any other large animal.
Registration deadline is October 16th, 2 p.m. Late registrations will be accepted but we cannot supply lunch for registrations received past the deadline.
On January 27, 2000, Governor Roy Barnes signed an executive order designating the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Equine Health Section as the primary response unit for incidents and emergencies involving large animals in the state of Georgia. However, county officials and volunteers from the community are oftentimes the first to arrive on the scene to handle a disaster. The GDA would like for them and you to be prepared, equipped, and capable of handling the situation. During emergency situations, help is needed in the area in which the disaster has occurred, therefore, the GDA Equine Health Section is hosting a Large Animal Emergency Rescue Awareness class. This training will educate and instruct local authorities and individuals on responding to emergency situations involving large animals. In addition, the course is applicable to obtain CE Credits for Veterinarians, Vet Techs, and Emergency Responders. A local College or University may be willing to provide CE credit (up to 14 hours) if you provide them with the syllabus for the course. The Georgia Department of Agriculture would like to invite you to attend in order for state and local responders to operate on the same level with the expertise and experience offered in the Large Animal Emergency Rescue Awareness class taught by Dr. Rebecca Giminez and Dr. Tomas Giminez. The details of the course and fees are outlined in the pamphlet posted below.
